5) POLL-What kind of desktop or laptop?

Visited http://members.ImmersiveEducation.org and took the poll at the bottom of the page (scroll down) on 9/29/11 poll called:
"Would you like to have Immersive Education K-12 Colorado Summit in 2012 in Denver or Boulder?"

Took Poll - output

Then went to older posts to find the "What kind of desktop or laptop poll"

Looked inside to find details:

h) LAND: Terraforming http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MR5tZN4BVSw&feature=related

This exercise for Terraforming was done in Rocket World.  I watched the Second Life video and proceeded to follow various options.  In general, they were successful.

I raised the land in Rocket World and had no issues following the Second Life Terraforming Video Tutorial.  However, I did notice that where Second Life had the small, medium and large drop down for brush size, whereas in Rocket World, I had a size slider to make the sizes vary.  The technique was basically the same even though it was a bit different in Rocket World.  Below are some of the Rocket World screenshots:

I continued trying various options in Rocket World with no problems.  I tried the flatten option:

The lower option:

The smooth option:

The roughen option:

And the revert option, again in Rocket World , reverting the shape back to the original - not just an undo.
Below is selecting some area of land:
However, Second life has Apply for the selection option, and Rocket World only has an apply button.  There is a slight difference here, but they work generally the same.

You can see information about your land by clicking the name on the top bar, and choosing the covenant tab - Rocket World and Second Life are basically the same.  Below are my Rocket World screenshots:

The options to look at the World=> Region Estate =>ground textures are similar in Rocket World as well.  You can choose inventory and see many different textures in the library.  Although, in Rocket World, my textures had difficulties in loading.

The Terrain tab allows you to use raw terrain files to change the terraform terrain, and some options you can use if you are the estate owner like the bake terrain to have the revert back go to the terrain you bake.
Seems that I was basically successful in following these Second Life video options in Rocket World, even though some of the buttons were slightly different.

g) How to deal with annoyances http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zajGLGuAf-A&feature=channel

In this Second Life video, they tell about how to deal with annoyances when blue, red or green triangles are coming out from objects or objects which is streaming data that is updating in real time.  You may have client menu updated and want to turn it off. Go to client menu and choose show updates.  In Rocket World the client menu does not exist.
Another annoyances that you may want to deal with is to stop all animations.  Go to tools menu and stop animations.  This is not in Rocket World either.  (Not doing well so far in this video.)

The next part they discuss getting rid of foot rendering in Second Life, where you go to Tools, client rendering, features, foot shadows, and choose off which is not in Rocket World.  Again the Client menu does not exist in Rocket World as mentioned and shown in the above screenshot.  Thus, this part was not successful in Rocket World.

For muting sounds, you can go toView=> Beacon, and Sound Sources.  This option is available in Rocket World, although because I didn't have something making a sound, I couldn't test the actual mute part and when I right clicked an object, I didn't see a mute option.  Below is the screenshot showing these same options in Rocket World.

In Rocket World, did not see the Edit => Scripts options on an object as was demonstrated in Second Life.

f) Linking prims http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chqyS08db-U&feature=related

This Linking prims video experience was similar between Rocket World and Second Life.  I was able to link as specified. After creating two objects, I was able to link the two of them by holding the shift key down and clicking the other object.  At that point you see the two objects have yellow boxes around showing they are linked.

The next part was to choose the Tools and select link, to link the two objects together.
After objects are linked, you will find that the yellow box is the parent, and the blue one is the child.  You can edit the properties by choosing each one separately.  From there, you can edit properties.  I was able to successfully change both items to be parent and child.
After unchecking the Edit linked parts, you can choose Tools=>unlink to go back to unlinked objects and you will be back to where you began.

e) How to Copy a prim http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMh1eY1fueE

You can copy a prim in Rocket World the same way as Second Life.  This was very successful.  I was able to shift drag and make a copy of an object.

I was able to continue making many object copies in Rocket World with shift drag.  This video was very hand as I experienced successful directions from Second Life.

d) How to use the building grid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8k-XoIPycm8&feature=related

The Building grid in Second Life was basically similar to Rocket World, with successes as described below.

The Tools=> grid option was the same.
The Grid Options was also the same, although I noticed that the Show Cross Sections was different.

The Enable Sub-Unit Snapping was the same.

The Grid Local World options were the same.

Adding an attachment to my avatar's arm.

Grid attachment ruler is the same.

Grid alignment is the same in Rocket World as it was in Second Life- success.

c) How to use Undo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKIVPTVh5IY&feature=channel

This Second Life tutorial video was very successful in comparing the Rocket World undo to Second Life.  The first video shows the undo in process.  As I worked in Rocket World, it worked the same as the Second Life video with both the Edit=> undo and the control z possibilities.
This screenshot shows the Edit=> undo greyed out because the object was not the focus.  Once the object is the focus, the Edit=> undo becomes available and works.

b) Navigating in small spaces http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63bxfweC5iE&feature=related

This navigating experience Second Life video tutorial had more success in Rocket World than the previous appearance video.  The view=> mouse look worked the same in Rocket World as it did in Second life, except the chat button was named differently in Second Life.
This view =>camera controls was handy, and successfully worked like Second life.

This screenshot shows the same map coming up in Rocket World, also depicting the location figures that are available for various input values.  However, the teleport button failed to work like Second Life.

a) How to change your appearance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqbuMi5N97c

a) How to change your appearance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqbuMi5N97c
This Experience in Rocket World I felt was a failure.  I tried many different options and finally crashed the application.  The right click of the avatar and the appearance choice and the avatar turning around saying that we could edit was really the only think I found that really worked.  I was able to successfully add a jacket, and changed the eyes a bit.  However, the previews and options were different from Second life.  Below are some of my screen shots.

The same way to bring up changing appearance:

After bringing up the appearance, it shows the avatar as locked and unable to change appearances:
 Different way to choose eyes

Was finally able to get the jacket to change and the previews looked somewhat similar to Second Life.

Trying to go through various other changes, and was not allowing me - there was a lock button on the top right preventing.

Finally, I played around so much trying to change something else and save it, Rocket World crashed.
